rdesktop + terminal services and license error

I have 2 terminal servers, and only 1 of them is having the problem
I am about to describe.

if I try to rdesktop one of the 2008 boxes, I get this error:

rdesktop 192.168.12.200
disconnect: Internal licensing error.
--------------------------------------

I can fix this by chowning the directory to root:root, but my problem
is that my HP linux thin clients cannot do this, since their firmware
is closed source.  Is there anything I can do on the server end to
resolve this?
