On server based OS'es the standard procedure documented for windows 7 will not work on 2k8. 2k8 R2 introduces a GPO to control this behavior. I am personally now trying come up with a way to get this working on a non R2 2k8 server that doesn't require a rebuild.

Getting "getaddrinfo" to Work Windows Server While trying to install a program "GESWALL FREE 2.9.2" on my Win2KproSP4 think. It is at hxxp: / / support.microsoft.com / kb / 955045 It states for a Resolution: Windows (Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows Me / 98 / 95), then it is mandatary to #include Ws2tcpip.h and also Wspiapi.h dll or the Wship6.dll (the file containing getaddrinfo in the IPv6 Technology Preview for Windows 2000) does not include 'getaddrinfo', then a version of 'getaddrinfo' is implemented inline based on code in the Wspiapi.h header file. This inline code will be used on older Windows platforms that do not natively support the 'getaddrinfo' function. " How do I do this? If gentlesecurity.com / downloads_geswall.html and it states the sys requirements are: Requirements 32-bit OS: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. RAM: 256 MB Disk space: 10 MB Thanks
