Windows Server - How to solve this problem ... ?

Asked By P. Langholm on 11-Mar-11 12:20 PM
Hi all,
I have a quite unpleasant surprise with a small server which I use at
home. I installed Microsoft Server 2008 (standard edition) on it.
Following a disk corruption problem, the server does not let me log in
any more. When I start it up, the users can still get to their files
(I use it as a file server) and all user rights are intact. However my
Remote Desktop Connection does no longer work.
When I start it with my local screen and keyboard, the server never
reaches the point where it says "Press Ctrl-Alt-DEl etc". It seems to
to try and address something on the disk without end.
Is there any file I should copy onto the boot partition to repair
this? Or do I really need to re-install the OS? I do not have a
partition image.
Thanks for any thought.

Try repairing the using windows installation disk. Or you can even try
System Restore.
