Which service pack should I use for small business server premium? There is
a service pack for that specifically, and there is a service pack for
windows server 2003. What problems could I run into if I use the wrong
service pack?

Which Service Pack are you asking about Daniel? SP1, or SP2?

Hi Daniel,

+ SBS 2003 SP1 is not a single download/install (it has 5 parts to it):

Windows Server 2003 SP1
Exchange Server 2003 SP1 (you can substitute Exchange 2003 SP2)
Windows SharePoint Services SP1 (you can later upgrade to WSS 2.0 SP3)
Windows Small Business Server 2003 Update KB891193 for Windows XP Service
Pack 2
Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1

How to install Service Pack 1 for SBS 2003

+ Windows 2003 SP2 is an operating system upgrade only and generally is
applied to SBS 2003 once all of SBS 2003 SP1 has been installed.

Windows 2003 SP2 does have some issues on SBS 2003:

+ If you have SBS 2003 Premium CDs (original RTM, not SP1), order SBS 2003
SP1 CD3 now as this will get you a free upgrade to ISA 2004. This offer
runs out in about 6 weeks (Dec 31, 2007).

That is part of the question I am asking. I would like to use the latest
service pack. I believe the latest service pack for small business server
premium edition is sp1, and the latest service pack for windows server 2003
is sp2.

You need both. Windows Server 2003 is just a component of SBS. There
are other components that need updating as well.
To add a bit to what Merv wrote, if you don't already have Windows
Server 2003 SP1 and SBS SP1 installed, you need to follow the full
update (Standard has 5 parts, Premium has 7 parts).
Service Pack 2

You CAN substitute Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Exchange 2003 SP2 for
the SP1's of those components because they are cumulative updates, but
you still need to install ALL of them according to the documented
procedure in order to have your server fully updated.
