Windows Server - How to reinstall broken WSUS 3 SP3 installation?

Hello,

I tried to install SP3 on WSUS 3 (Server 2003 Small business edition SP2)
The installation hung an I had to restart the server.

Now I cannot reinstall the SP3 and the mail notification service
cant send mails.

The original installation of wsus was done before my time and there is no
trace of it in the "add and remove programs" so I suppose it is part of
small business server installation

SP3 what?

There is no "SP3" for WSUS, and if you have WSUS installed on SBS2003SP2, we
need to know exactly what version of WSUS you have installed on SBS2003SP2,
and whether this SBS2003SP2 server is actually an SBS2003R2/SP2 server.

No trace of it in Add/Remove Programs suggests it is actually WSUS2SP1
installed with the R2 Technologies.

A properly installed WSUS3, even on an SBS2003R2 system, would show up in
Add/Remove Programs.

Start here for some background information on dealing with WSUS on SBS2003.
