Push Internet Explorer 7 through WSUS 2.0 to clients
Server OS: Windows 2000 Server
WSUS version: WSUS 2.0
Client OS: XP Pro SP1 and XP Pro SP2

I was told to look at declined updates in WSUS which I did, but I did not
find "Internet Explorer 7" in it.

Please help as searching did not bring any concrete results.

Thx.

First note.. IE7 won't install on XP SP1, so start planning to upgrade those
systems to SP2.

There's an ongoing discussion about this. When did you install your WSUS 2.0
server? When did you first synchronize IE7 content for distribution?

I was told to look at declined updates in WSUS which I did, but I did not
find "Internet Explorer 7" in it.

It's possible that you do not currenly have an English-language distribution
package for IE7 on your system,
and that your observations are entirely valid.

I'm investigating this today/tomorrow (depending on time availability due to
the holiday schedule).

Hmmm.. well, that wasn't what you posted in the original message.

The behavior being observed on *new* installs is that all Internet Explorer
7.0 updates are expired/declined. The current impact seems to be that
distribution of IE7 via WSUS is not possible. I've heard through reliable
channels that the IE7 team is actively working on this, and I'm scheduled to
participate in a 'chat' with the IE7 team on Thursday, at which time I
expect to get some definitive information on the plan for these updates --
if not before.

Doesn't matter now, in light of the Nov 10th installation. It might have
been relevant if the server had been online prior to Oct 1st.

What you need to do is set the Update View search parameters to "DECLINED",
whereupon you will find all of the IE7 update packages listed under the
titles "Windows Internet Explorer 7[.0] for <pick your platform>" There's
nothing you can do with this; it's merely informational at this point.

Sheessh.. no.. unfortunately. Apparently the event wasn't on my calendar,
like I thought it was, and I *totally* missed the event.

I'll check and see if there's a transcript of the chat available; perhaps
there will be some information there.

Arghh.. Arghhh.. Arghhh.... (too much to do, not enough time to get it done
in)...

Hi Lawrence,

Is there another way to push IE 7 to all my clients other than pushing
through WSUS ?

Pls advise.

Thx.

I presume that standard AD/GPO/Intellimirror based methodologies will work.
