History:
SBS 2003 R2, all windows updates, etc.
Installed Sharepoint 3.0 side by side.
Testing email alert features. Notice emails not going out.
I am not versed with IIS at all. Tried a couple of things then decided to re-install IIS SMTP component.

NOT GOOD.

Found that I had damaged the IIS / Exchange Server SMTP service extensions and they had not been restored.

I used KB822939 & Q320202 to resolve the problem with Exchange. (Un-install and re-install IIS and Exchange), It took two tries before it worked.

However my orginial problem still exists. No emails going out from the Sharepoint 3.0 site. In the event log I find the follow informaiton:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Event Category: E-Mail
Event ID: 6858
Date: 2/1/2010
Time: 10:15:39 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MS-FS0
Description:
An error occurred while talking to SMTP host ?????.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

So I research the error message, and find there is NO smtp virtual server in the IIS Manager. I research that problem and find http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555030, which advises me to register a dll, I do that and still no smtp virtual server in the IIS Manager. Method 2 recommends re-installing IIS, I have done this a few times already over the weekend.

What can I do to get this to work?

SBS2008 + searching large mailbox Windows Server Have an SBS2008 installation. The company has a Mail Archive mailbox which is around 8GB PC's it takes a very very long time. However on their previous SBS 2003 server in Exchange 2003 it was taking nowhere near as long and searching was almost instant. Any ideas SBS2008 is HP ML350G6 18GB RAM which is much faster than their old SBS 2003 server. Only other major change to their PC setup is their AV was upgraded from SAV and try again to see if this makes any difference. Meantime anyone any ideas ? Jim. Re-installation of RPC HTTP proxy feature leads to big problem in Windows Server SBS 2008, being the odd duck that it is, moves certain virtual directories from the the RPC HTTP proxy feature is removed and then added again in SBS 2008 using Windows Server Manager (which the last time I looked was part of SBS 2008), the RPC and cert installation is broken. I have examined the script in the CAS role repair of Exchange Server (SBS version) and do not see how the RPC and RPCwithCert vdirs are being moved fully documented which would at least provide a way to recreate them in the proper IIS 7 site. Somebody tell me there is an easy way to fix my broken SBS 2008. Windows Server SBS Discussions Windows Small Business Server 2008 (1) Windows Server 2008 (1) Microsoft Exchange

Multiple domains on single domain controller Windows Server I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction, perhaps there is domain controller, used primarily for personal use. I host a single domain companyX.com on Windows Server 2003 and Exchange. I have had the current setup with virtually the same hardware, and domain / email for almost 10 years without alot of problems (it used to be run on 2000 Server). I'd like to keep it that way, and as simple as possible. I now sure exactly how to proceed, although I do not beleive it too difficult. *crossing fingers*.
