Creating New SharePoint Site SBS 2003 R2

Asked By epodowski
20-Nov-09 01:26 PM
There are several questions here. We have SharePoint installed and we
extensively use http://companyweb as our intranet site. We would like to
create another http://companyweb intranet site.

In SharePoint I can create a New SharePoint Site but the address would be,
for example, http://companyweb/ mysite

How can I make the above site address, for example, http://companyweb1 ? Is
this considered a new Virtual Server? [I did not want to try this for fear it
may affect our current company intranet site.]

If this is possible, how do I create a link to http://companyweb1 on the
Remote Web Workplace for the Mobile Users??? sign in page? If this is
possible, can I limit through user permissions, who is actually able to see
this new address link?

If you know of a KB that addresses each of these questions, please let me
know. I greatly appreciate your help and insights.

Thank you,
Ed Podowski

Hi Ed,

Not quite on point, but...

How to create a sub site beneath Companyweb
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Articles/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/80/How-to-create-a-sub-site-beneath-Companyweb.aspx

Then add a link to your Companyweb page for the subsite and restrict who can
access it.

Marina,Thank you. Your article address was exactly what I am trying to do.

Marina,

Thank you. Your article address was exactly what I am trying to do. I do
have one problem. Every time I try to access the new Intranet site, i.e.
http://companyweb1/ it request a user name and password. I am signed in as
administrator on the server. I use my administrator credentials, they are
not accepted, so access is denied.

I have used all the defaults according to the article you suggested. I
compared the properties/permissions for the existing http://companyweb and
the new http://companyweb1 sites and I do not see any differences.

Any suggestions?

Thank you again for your help,
Ed Podowski

Hello Marina,Thank you for continuing to help me resolve this issue.

Hello Marina,

Thank you for continuing to help me resolve this issue.

I added the site to trusted sites in IE, but continue to get a request for
user name/password and it continues to reject the credentials with "You are
not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this
directory or page using the credentials that you supplied." [the credentials
I am using are currect. I know I followed your instructions in the link you
provided in an earlier post.]

Here is another bit of information. In IIS under Web Sites Right Click >
Browse on the original companyweb folder I can see the existing intranet site
without providing any additional credentials. [I can see other existing
sites when I do this.] If I do this for the new companyweb1 folder I am
asked for user name/password.

As a test, I have added other sites per your instructions, but with the same
results. It has to be something minor.

Thanks again,
Ed Podowski
Does anyone else have any suggestions on the possible causes for thissituation?

This aditional information may help.

This aditional information may help.

I found a post by Susan Bradley about authentication issues concerning the
top level site http://companyweb but the patch in KB961143 was applied in May
2009 in our SBS 2003 R2 Server. Also the authentication issue is not with
our http://companyweb but with the new top level site http://companyweb1.

FYI: Currently we have .Net 2.0. We did not install .Net 3.0.

I used the following article by Marina Roos:

This one is for a separate website: How to create a new website in SharePoint:
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Articles/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/82/categoryId/27/How-to-create-a-new-website-in-SharePoint.aspx

Maybe this article has a step missing. If you know of another article that
I should be using, I would greatly appreciate the link.

Again thank you for your help.
