Windows Server - SBS2008 + Windows XP 'Windows Firewall' GPO

Hi All,

On SBS2003 we used to modify a GPO to control the Windows XP machines
'Windows Firewall'

I've been into the GPM on SBS2008 and there doesn't appear to be one
any more as far as I can tell..

Can I just enable the same settings on the 'Windows SBS User' Policy ?

Or would it be more sensible to recreate and link as before ?

Jim.

There are two, one for XP one for Vista.

You sure you do not see it?

Two points:

1) There should be policies for XP and for Vista. Look more carefully....
2) Always create new GPO's for custom settings. The wizards tend to play in
the defaults, so I recommend leaving the defaults for SBS to manage and you
can manage your own...

Ahhh...

OK...I think that I've found it..

Is it called 'Windows SBS Client - Windows XP Policy' ?

...and 'Windows SBS Client - Windows Vista Policy' ?

..A bit off the beaten track...though I guess it's all part of the *new* way

Couldn't see anything regarding this in Charlie's new book..then again
perhaps I'm not looking hard enough :-) :-)

Thanks folks..

Hmm..'Protect all network connections' is now off by default..?

How bad is this SATA hard drive? Windows Server Hello, I have 500 GB Western Digital SATA drive which is about 1 year old. Recently, my Windows XP froze seveal times and finally Windows refused to start at all (no error displayed whatsoever). I installed the 2nd drive (IDE Running chkdsk does not show any problems on D and Z partitions. D partition holds Vista installation and it was used very, very seldom (only to test some programs). Z partition f each time reveals more bad clusters (not found previously) 3. Tried to install new Windows on that C partition (the installation used CD drive) Installations fails soon after " Cannot read file so and so" but using the same CD I was able to install Windows on the spare IDE hard drive. It looks like the installation could not read its do to check, test & eventually repair that SATA drive?
