Windows Server - Upgrade from Trial to Retail

Asked By Larsen

I have read that upgrade from trial to retail version is possible, but as
only the Premium version is available as trial, I wonder what happens, when
I purchase a Standard and tries to upgrade the trial.

Anyone knows if this works?

I have not installed the SQL-server, and will not need it...

Thanks in advance!

If you haven't installed the Premium parts
you should be good.

Is this SBS2003 or SBS2008?

Thanks - that sounds good.

It is SBS 2008. I am testing migration currently, and it will be so much
easier, if I can just upgrade to the retail version after confirming
everything works...

Thanks!

Of course that is what Microsoft TELLS me it should do.
(I've never done trial upgrade of SBS2008)

Since you like it
any reason you aren't buying the license before you put all your eggs in the
basket?

I will buy the license before rolling over, so the trial is just to make
sure printers, clients, VMware etc. still runs.

But, if I know upgrading the trial will work, I can safely spend more time
installing, configuring and testing the new server, and find out what new
hardware/software bits I need to make it run live, so I am quite sure there
are no suprises hidden somewhere. Yeah, I am quite lazy :-)

Nothing wrong with being lazy...
Sometimes the easiest way to do things is the best. :)
(I see so many people who post complex solutions for simple things, it makes
me wonder)
