DFS Replication is Windows 2003 Server R2.
SBS 2003 R2 is not Windows 2003 Server R2 and does not support DFS
Replication.
You'll need to set that up between 2 Windows 2003 R2 Servers.

Hi john,

Thanks for posting here.

From the description, I understand the issue is that you have set up dfs
links, but you cannot find the replicate tab. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Let us refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Before we can go further,I would like to clarify the fact that SBS 2003 R2
support DFS replication, the replication can be done between SBS 2003
server and standard 2003 server.

1.I suspect that the root cause is that the DFS link replication is not
enabled.

Therefore, please right-click the DFS link and choose "Show Replication
Information" to see if the replication has already been enabled on every
target.

If not, please right click the DFS link and click "Configure Replication".
Then follow the wizard to create DFS replication for the two DFS targets.

Please monitor if the problem has been resolved in this way.

2. Domain DFS replication uses FRS (File Replication Service). Therefore,
please double-check the File Replication Service Event Logs on each server
that holds a DFS target to see if there are any errors.

3. Please let me know the topology of the problem DFS link. Where are the
two DFS targets physically located?

Sorry Jacky but everything I know about SBS 2003 R2 says it does not
include:

DFS Names Spaces
DFS Replication
File Server Resource Manager (FSRM)
Storage Mgr for SANS (SMfS)
Yhe new storage quota types
Services for UNIX (SFU),
Active Directory Federation Services

Despite all out pleading and arguing Microsoft's decision was that these
were apporpriat for Windows server because of the corporate/enterprise space
but were not needed for Small business and therefore did NOT include them in
SBS R2

------
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/evaluation/faq/prodinfo.mspx

A. See the comparison chart here listing which product technologies are
included in each edition.

Q. Does SBS 2003 R2 include all the components of Windows Server 2003 R2?

A. No. The core Windows Server 2003 technologies are available in SBS 2003
R2, but many of the enhancements in Windows Server 2003 R2 are designed for
medium- to large-sized businesses. By the time most small businesses require
those technologies, such as an enterprise-class branch office infrastructure
management, their IT needs have exceeded the capabilities of SBS 2003 R2.
What is important to remember, however, is that key technologies from the
Windows Server family have been added to SBS 2003 R2, including Windows
Software Update Services (WSUS) and SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2. SBS 2003 R2
customers can easily receive those technology benefits without requiring a
significant investment in their IT infrastructure.

Can you please point me at resources that show me where SBS R2 provides DFS
Replication ?

Hello Customer

I have done more research on this issue. I'd like give you some update.

We do not support install DFSR on SBS.

SBS2003 R2 does not include DFSR. Assuming that as it has not been bundled
with the OS. It might not work and would be an un-supported configuration
if you install DFSR on SBS.

SBS 2003 R2 does not include DFSR. However, SBS can do DFS with FRS for
replication. But that not DFSR replication with a Win2k3 R2 server. For
DFSR, you would need to have 2 Windows Server 2003 R2 servers for that.

Hope the info help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

Jacky, there is no "Show Replication Information" on the DFS link.
There is no "Configure Replication" on the DFS link.
I am running SBS2003R2.
Please advise.
Thanks

My question is this.
Why didn't they include that?
If I'm running my small business, I'd
love to have file replication to another
SBS2003 server so I wouldn't have any
down time in the event of a crash.
Thanks

Henry, my boss told me we have a Windows 2003 Server R2.
I am on it now. And there is no replication link anywhere in DFS
I'm not in a domain but a workgroup environment.
I'd like to replicate the files on our Windows Server Standard Edition 2003
SP1 to the Windows 2003 Server R2 for a backup.
Does this sound correct? If not, where could I be messing up at?
Please advise.
Thanks

But it does have the DFS v1, just not v2.

We do indeed have FSRM in SBS 2003 r2 btw. We got that.

Well if you're in 'workgroup' and not a domain and don't have SBS 2003,
then you're in the wrong place from the get - go.

I would suggest posting your issue to microsoft.public.windows.server.dfs
and/or m.p.w.s.dfs_frs group.

You have a completely different set of constraints than the SBS community.
