Windows Server - Can 2003 DC be part of 2008 domain?

Asked By Jarryd on 13-May-10 10:10 AM
Hi I need to install another DC in my 2008 domain. I have spare Win Srv
2003 Std. Ed. licences. Can I use a Win Srv 2003 DC in a Win 2008 domain?

TIA,

Jarryd

As long as the domain/forest is in 2003 Functional level, then yes. If in
2008 FFL/DFL, then no.

Ah that is so sweet! Shot-o for the info dude.

BTW what is the drawback to 2003 Functional Level? I guess it means a heap
of features are not enabled, right?

Cheers,

Jarryd

Don't know if I'd say a "heap" but there are some. Noteably fine grained
password policy and a few others. The only got ya, is there is no going
backwards on domain or forest functional levels. If it is already been
raised, then you cannot use 2003 DC's.
