Windows Server - ADMT v3 question

Hi Guys, I am trying to migration my Windows 2003 domain to another Windows
2003 R2 domain. Can I still maintain the same forest root  and child domain
structure? My problem is my forest root DC is corrupted and I do not have a
system state backup. I want to migration the forest root domain to a new
forest domain but with the same FQDN. Any help will be appreciated.

Hello Kingsley,

you can not use the same domain names, they must be different. Either choose
a temp domain and migrate twice or change to a new name. Which errors do
you have in the forest and how many DCs where there used?

I have created a different FQDN for the forest but am unable to create a
forest trust relationship with the old forest. Also i keep getting this
error message "Generic Host process for Win32 services encountered a problem
a needed to close". How can i fix this.

Did you also create a different name computer (DC), and NetBIOS domain name?
Which article or instructions did you follow to create the forest?

What exactly is the error message you are receiving when the trust attempt
fails?

What errors are you seing in the Event Logs (post the eventID# and Source
name, please).

Please also post an unedited ipconfig /all from the source domain DC and
from the target domain DC. This will help us eliminate any possible DNS
network configuration errors.

If you cannot post that information, we will be relying on guesswork...


Basic rules to create a forest trust:
1. Create a conditional Forwarder from ForestA to ForestB's DNS server(s).
2. Create a conditional Forwarder from ForestB to ForestA's DNS server(s).
3. Add the Domain Admins group from ForestA to ForestB's root domain's Local
Administrators group.
4. Add the Domain Admins group from ForestB to ForestA's root domain's Local
Administrators group.
