Hi Guys, I am trying to migration my Windows 2003 domain to another Windows
2003 R2 domain. Can I still maintain the same forest root and child domain
structure? My problem is my forest root DC is corrupted and I do not have a
system state backup. I want to migration the forest root domain to a new
forest domain but with the same FQDN. Any help will be appreciated.
Kingsley.

Howdie!

That will not work. You'll have to specify different FQDNs for that.

Hello Kingsley,
you can not use the same domain names, they must be different. Either choose
a temp domain and migrate twice or change to a new name. Which errors do
you have in the forest and how many DCs where there used?
Best regards

I have created a different FQDN for the forest but am unable to create a
forest trust relationship with the old forest. Also i keep getting this
error message "Generic Host process for Win32 services encountered a problem
a needed to close". How can i fix this.

Did you also create a different name computer (DC), and NetBIOS domain name?
Which article or instructions did you follow to create the forest?
What exactly is the error message you are receiving when the trust attempt
fails?
What errors are you seing in the Event Logs (post the eventID# and Source
name, please).
Please also post an unedited ipconfig /all from the source domain DC and
from the target domain DC. This will help us eliminate any possible DNS
network configuration errors.
If you cannot post that information, we will be relying on guesswork...
Basic rules to create a forest trust:
1. Create a conditional Forwarder from ForestA to ForestB's DNS server(s).
2. Create a conditional Forwarder from ForestB to ForestA's DNS server(s).
3. Add the Domain Admins group from ForestA to ForestB's root domain's Local
Administrators group.
4. Add the Domain Admins group from ForestB to ForestA's root domain's Local
Administrators group.
Then follow the steps...

SBS2003 | Windows Server 2008 - Exchange 2007 Windows Server Good morning! We have a new client that ultimately has an SBS2003 environment with an additional Domain Controller (WIN2008) and an additional Exchange Server (2007). I have not been apart of this at all (except for looking at it saying that in a negative way (really not). Is it possible to: 1) remove Exchange 2003 from the SBS2003 box (I know all about having to use the Administrator account. . .have VPN connection (just thinking what we must have been thinking when we removed the SBS2003 server from the client's office)? As long as we have CD2, right? 2) remove SBS2003 be the thought process that my colleagues have)? Any and all comments welcome. No inbound emails from outside domain Windows Server SBS 2003 Premium on Dell PE2800 server, with Symantec Corp. AV ver. 12.5. Everything is current with patches and SP's reported it to tech support. Did further checking and cannot see anything wrong in the server Event logs, SBS BPA, Exchange BPA, ESM > Tools logs - nothing out of the ordinary. No but it eventually gives a red "X" when on step 2 - "Search for <email address> server settings". I reset them manually, but no change. I did see one error in my s log (it runs Vista Business) - event id 40961, source Lsasrv. I checked it on eventid.net and saw it might be Kereberos, but I have done nothing with it in Crane Maintenance Trust, Inc. a conservation non-profit (501 (c)(3)) organization Wood River, NE Windows Server SBS Discussions Microsoft.WEBS.BPA.Engine.ExecutionModule.Execute (1) Microsoft.WEBS.BPA.Engine.DataCollector

SBS2008 + searching large mailbox Windows Server Have an SBS2008 installation. The company has a Mail Archive mailbox which is around 8GB their PC's it takes a very very long time. However on their previous SBS 2003 server in Exchange 2003 it was taking nowhere near as long and searching was almost instant. Any ideas why mailbox seems to be performing so mich slower than it was before on their SBS 2003 setup ? The new hardware for the SBS2008 is HP ML350G6 18GB RAM which is much faster than their old SBS 2003 server. Only other major change to their PC setup is their AV was upgraded from SAV
Is it possible to decrypt EFS files without backup certificate Windows Server A PC had Vista installed and one folder was encrypted by OS. This folder had some thousand or so files. Then Vista was reinstalled, with most old system files (including "Windows", folder left intact on HDD.
