Windows Server - Start this program at logon.... in User's Environment Tab

I have a very strange problem in one of my child domains.
I have a child domain with windows 2000 domain controllers and windows 2008
domain controllers. When I create a new user on the windows 2008 domain
controller and look at the environment tab the user’s active directory
property “Start the following Program at logon” is not checked.
After starting a published application on one of my citrix servers this
property will be automatically enabled after the first logon. The strange
thing about this is that if I look at this user property from the windows
2000 domain controller the “Start the following Program at logon” property is
checked. If look at this property from a windows 2008 domain controller the
property is unchecked. It is not a synchronization problem.
If I enable or disable the property from the windows 2008 domain controller
nothing happens. The changes will be just ignored. I can uncheck this
property only from a windows 2000 domain controller. I don’t have this
problem in another child domain with only windows 2008 domain controller.
Is this a bug?

Sandro

Hello pizzi,

We also use Citrix and i never saw this in our environment, until now no
2008 DC's, only 2000/2003. Does the 2008 DC hold the PDC emulator role, the
RID master role and the Infrastructure master role? Not sure if this can
be the reason. But if you have 2008 DC's they should always have the FSMO
roles.

Best regards

might be related?

Hi Meinolf
The Windows 2008 DC do not have any FSMO roles assigned yet. I going to test
this.

Hi Jorge

No, there aren’t any errors related to replication in the event log. I don’t
think it is a replication problem. I’m connecting always to same Windows 2008
DC. Once with Windows 2000 ADUC and once with the Windows 2008 ADUC.

Thanks
Sandro

I also just started having this problem after upgrading the FSMO role
holder to 2008 which was the last of 4 DC's to get upgraded from
2003...still running AD in 2003 functional level.

Did you ever get this one resolved? I am not really sure how to
troubleshoot this one. Logs are clean.

Thanks.
