Windows Server - GPO to Disable a Computer at a Future Date
Asked By Shan

Is there any way via a GPO to disable a computer on a specified future date?
We have students that are issued laptops and if they do not return the laptop
we are looking for a way to disable the machine on a given future date.
Any thoughts/help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

GPOs do not support such a feature
the first thing that comes to mind is scripting using an input file
some process that runs every day by looking at an input file. If a computer
account is specified in the input file will be disable. it it is removed
from the input file you need to decide what to do with the computer account
in AD...Delete it? Leave it disabled? Enable it again? Etc.etc.

are processed. This occurs synchronously by default and in the following order: local GPO, site GPOs, domain GPOs, and OU GPOs. GPOs linked to the OU highest in the Active Directory hierarchy are applied first, followed by GPOs linked to its child OU, and so on. Finally, the GPOs linked to the OU that contains the user or computer are applied. At the level of each OU in the Active Directory hierarchy, one, many, or no GPOs can be linked. If several group policies are linked to an OU, then they are specified by the administrator. This order means that the local GPO is applied first, and GPOs linked to the OU of which the computer or user is a direct member are
How to Consolidate or Combine GPOs Windows Server In an effort to reduce logon times, I'm looking to consolidate or combine many GPOs into fewer GPOs. Are there any tools or tricks to help me combine GPOs rather than doing all the edits manually? Do I need to simply use the Group It couldn't be that hard (could it?) to create a tool to read multiple GPOs and copy non-conflicting configured settings into a fresh GPO, then offer choices for those settings that have conflicting configurations within the selected pool of GPOs. Pipe dream? Bad idea? Or good idea that no one's done yet? All thoughts reason (login time reduction), perhaps in part not if there are a large number of GPOs applied to pre-Vista clients. Now, to reduce mgmt complexity, errors, etc., then consolidation can this, that looks are a tree (rooted at domain or OU) as to where which GPOs are linked and extracts and places the common from lower GPOs up the parental chain

Deleted GPOs affecting new GPOs?? Windows Server My problem is with WSUS and GPO for our servers. WSUS and GPO boot on their own. I read a posting online that there can be vestiges of GPOs left after a GPO is deleted. The work around was to put the server in do to take the primary DC through that remedy. . .
