Windows Server - Setting desktop to auto-arrange via GPO

Asked By Yobbo on 25-Apr-07 03:06 PM
Hi All

Kids... Kids... Kids.

They make my Desktops a mess.

Could somebody please confirm whether or not it is possible to set the
Auto-Arrange property (usually done by right-clickin on the Desktop) via
GPO.

It seems to be a per user setting so even though I set it up when I first
did the actual PCs, naturally as the users log on with different accounts
this setting gets ignored.

Its just that the desktop icons are all over the place.

Is there anyway to set this up in GPO?

Thanks

I am a tech at a school also. I have solved this problem using a combination
of Group Policy settings. I can send you the instructions on how I did it
for XP and I am currently working on Vista. It keeps the desktops consistent
for the kids. No matter what they change or delete the settings always go
back to the default that I set. Eventually they give up. We are doing this
with Group Policies and not Fortres or Deep Freeze type programs. Leave me
your email address or a phone number and I will contact you directly.

Hi McMurray

Sorry for the delay, but I'd like to take you up on your kind offer.

Many thanks.
