Windows Server - List of files by date view backwards

Asked By anonymou on 13-May-10 10:59 PM
In Win2000, when I am in Explorer and go to VIEW and ARRANGE ICONS, and
choose to arrange them by DATE, the OLDEST date is First, the newest
is last. If I arrange by NAME, the "Z" names are at the top, and the

WTF?

Is this another intentional MS modification to frustrate the user?
I have Win98 (dual boot) on the same computer as well as a few other
computers. it is always sorted with the newest or first letter of the
alphabet FIRST. I have Win2000 on this computer and a laptop, and
Win2K does it backward on both of them. The newest file or the "A"
file should be FIRST. This only makes sense. Every other windows
version I have ever used does it with the newest date or first
alphabetical letter first. MS must have been on drugs when they
created this backward pipedream. (this is nothing I changed either).

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks

Did you try to click on "Modified" at the top of the date
column? (Look at the triangle next to "Modified, click, look
at the triangle, click, ...)

This is an intriguing post. Sorting by columns has been around ever since
Windows 95, not only in Explorer but also in applications such as Outlook,
Outlook Express and others. In spite of his long exposure to Windows, the OP
has failed to picked up this useful technique. Now we all have our blind
spots but instead of just asking how to do it, he basically suggests that
the MS boys are a bunch of incompetent idiots on a permanent drug trip. Not a
nice person to deal with. Next time do your homework first and shoot later.

On your "View" menu, you will see the following items:
Large Icons
Small Icons
List
Details
Thumbnails
Exactly *one* of those will have a black dot to its left.
Which is it? If it is anything other than "details", click "details".
Then look at the "Name" column header. The arrow is pointing down,
right? Click that header. The arrow is now pointing up, right?
And the names now go from A to Z instead of Z to A, right?

You're welcome.
