journal entry to bank account

Asked By Jill O

I am new to this system. I have done several journal entries to the bank
account and none of them are showing up. When I view the journal entry, it
shows that I have either debited or credited the bank acct along with the
other end of the journal entry, but when I go to view my checkbook register
and or reconcile the bank acct it is not showing up. I have gone back and
reversed several entries that I have already done, but was wondering why
journal entries are not hitting the bank acct? Please help???

The general ledger does not 'talk' to the checkbook register.

The general ledger does not 'talk' to the checkbook register. If you are
going to use Bank Rec you must never make an entry to the related cash
account in the general ledger. Your checkbook is a subledger to cash just as
Payables Management is a subledger to the A/P account. I'd go so far as to
say you should go into Account Maintenance and uncheck the 'allow account
entry' box to make sure nobody is tempted to make JEs to cash. All cash
changes should be originated in one of the subledgers or as a Bank
Transaction.

HTH,

Kind Regards,

Leslie
