hello all,
I have a script that creates daily a log files with some auditing
info.
I would like to have mom to collect this log and send it to a
notification group.
is it possible ?
I found some docs that show how to collect generic log files based on
errors, I just want to collect the entire log file (which is only a
couple of kbs). how do I do this ?
I already created the provider but then I'm stuck...
thanks in advance for any help!

Hi zerbie45@gmail.com,
Think I would go for a script that sends that file as a attachment, you dont
need to store it in the MOM database if you only want to mail it.

hello anders,
thanks for your answer.
yes I wouldn't need to store it in the mom db.
If I could send it as an attachement it would be really good. Any
Ideas how I can accomplish that ? Would you have a sample script I
could start with ? Would it be sent through MOM or would I need to
have a connection to an smtp server from the server where the agent is
installed ?
Thanks!

You can't use MOM to send the contents of an entire file simply, this is a
limitation of the product. it can read a file a line at a time, just create
a rule using the "application log" provider and then specify the directory
containing the file. the contents of each new line is stored in parameter 4
so each time a new line is written by creating a rule using the criteria
reason that you could not then send this using a "send notification to a
notification group.." response and refer to parameter 4 in the description.
However this just sends it a line at a time.
to send the whole contents you are better to really just use MOm as an
advanced scheduler. by creatig a rule that uses a "timed event provider"
such as "every 12 hours" you can then run a response script on the back of
this. this response script can be a standard vbscript (though without the
use of wscript as this is not supported, the scriptcontext object must be
used instead), and in this vbscript you would send the file using standard
SMTP scripting. You could then do something useful like create a success
event in the script so you have an indication in MOM perhaps.
however to answer the question in a line, then no you cannot create a rule
in mom out of the box which reads an entire text file then sends it as
contents without customization.

Hi Mike,
thanks very much for your help, I did read it as you posted but forgot
to thank you ;-))

Greetings,
Have you looked into using a file transfer response to an event rule running
on a timed provider? It seems like that should do what you would want. I
have not used this response in a while but as I remember it seems to do
almost exactly what you are asking.

Q Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Server MORSBS01 \ SHAREPOINT, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 25 The database 'STS_Config' does not exist. Use sp_helpdb to show available databases. Any help would be appreciated Hi Shawn, Thanks for your post. From the error message, it seems the Sharepoint configuration database " STS_Config " is missing or not at the default place or the corresponding instance is not running on the SQL server. Please consider the following suggestions: 1. Check the default database path; Please check, by default the Sharepoint database location is C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft SQL Server \ MSSQL$SharePoint \ Data, which should contains the following 4 database files : STS_Servername_1.mdf STS_Servername_1_Log.ldf STS_Config.mdf STS_Config_Log.ldf Please check if they are there properly or generate error messages? Please have a try. Similarly, to confirm if the STS_config database is attached and running correctly, please run SQL Server Management Studio and then try to files you mentioned in their proper directory 2. Opened a command line and performed the database commands you had asked me to perform. Below are the results. Microsoft Windows [Version 5 16, State 1, Server MORSBS01 \ SHAREPOINT, Line 1 Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'STS_Config'. No entry found with that name.
