I'm brand new to this, so bear with me. We currently have a Windows Based
Network with Windows 2003 Servers. I want to add an ISA Server for remote
access and VPN connectivity for our remote users. I'm assuming that I can
load Windows 2003 Server on a spare box, then install ISA Server. Is that
correct? What should the hardware requirements be for this server? And, does
this server need to be some sort of Domain Controller (either Primary or
Backup) on our network. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is Microsoft's web site for system requirements:

http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/prodinfo/default.mspx

The server should have 2 nic cards and can be a member server. Go to
www.isaserver.org for how to articles before you do anything.

Thanks for the info. I figured there was a requirements web page somewhere.
We also have a PIX firewall, will any changes have to be made to the PIX in
order to get this to work?

Thanks

By default isa will be blocking all outbound and inbound traffic so you will
have to understand all the required rules for allowing inbound and outbound
access. In addition the pix will have to be reconfigured to send traffic to
the external interface of isa. I have not worked with a pix firewall so I
can't give you any specifics.

GPO's Not Replicating Windows Server I am having a great deal of trouble getting GPs to pull over the domain. I have beaten my head against the wall and just cannot resolve it. So, currently - dcdiag turns up no errors on the pdc. ipv6 is turned off. domain authentication works to port 389 on the DC but I can telnet to 23 (after enabling telnet server). It shows that it is listening on 389 in netstat. SYSVOL properties are as they GP fine. it is everything outside of those 2 that does not. The PDC / DNS server is using its own IP for DNS. GPResult reads: Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below. The network is not present or not started. Note: Due to the GP Core failure, none of View this thread: http: / / forums.techarena.in / active-directory / 1288776.htm http: / / forums.techarena.in Windows Server Active Directory Discussions Windows Server 2008 R2 (1) Windows Server 2008 (1) Active Directory (1

SBS 2008 Slow Network Performance with Windows XP Clients Windows Server Two months ago I completed an uneventful install of SBS 2008 for a company of about 25 users on brand-new hardware. The only significance issues since the install have been performance-related, specifically that browsing shared folders on the server is very slow (displaying the contents of folders, for example). Opening large documents and media files is also very slow, and at least one server-based Visual Foxpro program which ran very fast under the old Server 2003 server slows to a crawl with the new server. However, all these woes disappear
Some client fails to report Windows Server We have been using WSUS for quite some time and are now using WSUS 3 not see this on the machines that work. Two of the machines that fails are Windows 2003 Server and one is a new Windows 2008 Server. DCPROMO seems to be stuck - Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Server Hello, I am not an expert on the subject but I have set up about 15 2008 servers and run DCPROMO without seeing this issue. I have a 2008 R2 server - just formatted from scratch, applied the 8 or so patches from Windows update. I am attempting to set up a brand new domain - new everything and it has started the DC Promo process. I have set it for 2003 functional level. It says currently Configuring the local computer to host Active Directory Services. I realize it said set up
