deploy biztalk project by non-technical person
Asked By Wade Ding
28-May-07 10:00 AM
Hi All,
After I developed a deployment scripts, I found it is still difficult for
these non-technical people to deploy biztalk assemblies/artifacts.
Deploy a biztalk solution does not like deploy a normal windows application
or web application, it needs the person ready to deal with vary situations.
Now I understand why big BizTalk development team need dedicated deployment
developers.
Now I am thinking maybe this is not possible to let a non-technical person
to accomplish deployment tasks unless I train him into technical.
Any opnion is welcome.
Wade
I don't understand one point, how can you ask a non-technical person to do

I don't understand one point, how can you ask a non-technical person to do
some deployment in a production server? Do you mean non-technical or
non-biztalk?
If it's non-technical (say for example, you want your marketing director to
do the deployment), then it won't make any sense at all. But, if the person
is non-biztalk but with some technical background, then I don't think it
will be a rocket science to master these tasks
1. Double click on an MSI
2. Open BizTalk admin console and import MSI
3. Select the writing binding file for the environment from a drop-down
list, when asked.
do it few times in a virtual machine, they you'll know what you are doing.
It all depends on how good your MSI is, and how well your manual steps are
documented.

That's exactly what I want to hear. My customer want do installation
himself-- Just like other windows applications I developed for them. I was
questioning if it's doable.
Thank you,
Wade
It achievable, you just need to document each and every step.

It achievable, you just need to document each and every step. Taking into
account each minute details. We had done this in the past.
