Windows Server - Unsupported SBS 2003-2008 Migration options?

I am undertaking a migration of our SBS server from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008
because our network has been around since NT 4 days there is a couple of
issues. The primary one is that our internal domain name is only single level
which is not supported by the migration. I guess this is not to bad since AD is
a bit of a mess after years of people with various skill levels trying to
make changes.

I know I cannot have 2 SBS servers with the same domain name on the same
network, but I do not know about if they have different AD domains and do not
need to trust eachother. What I'd like to know is after the initial install
and while I am doing all the fun stuff like exmerge and copying the sharepoint
server across can I turn off DHCP and put the new server (with a new AD
domain name) on the same subnet as the old running server without problems?
This would make testing and file copying somewhat easier for me, but it is not
essential as I could set up a temporary network/VLAN if need be.

Also will SBS 2008 accept an unsupported ISP assigned private subnet address
(ie one that is not the standard 192.168.x.x)?

Jason:

Probably better to ask in the SBS 2008 ng. Instructions can be found here.

https://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2008/11/02/signing-up-for-the-sbs-2008-newsgroups.aspx

But, in general, you can build your SBS 2008 with any subnet you wish and
change it later, but it must find a router/firwall on the LAN during the
installation and it will self configure to that ip range.

For the purposes of installing a new SBS, I would plan on doing it at least
three times to get familiar with the proceedure.

Sharepoint Permissions Shot on SBS 2008 Windows Server Hey everyone, I have some serious Sharepoint 3.0 Issues. For starters, after the upgrade to Sharepoint 3.0, the Windows Search Server went down, along with all site access. I spent hours bringing every site back online, but I have no access whatsoever to the Sharepoint Admin. Can I remove Sharepoint 2.0? Windows Server I have SBS2003R2 Premium with Sharepoint 2.0 installed. There is another SQL server with some LOB application running from it and I plan to install Sharepoint 3.0 onto a member server. We do not use companyweb or any other aspect of Sharepoint 2.0 on the SBS plus it has SQL installed just for this purpose, all on the SBS have now been moved to the dedicated SQL server. Can I uninstall Sharepoint 2.0 and SQL from SBS2003R2 without causing problems to any other components of SBS companyweb will be gone, but that is ok.
