SBS 2008 reboots for ages after successful install
Asked By jin9
19-Nov-09 04:50 AM
SBS 2008 has installed itself (all settings by default) successfully onto a
new clean machine. Right after that I have rebooted the server making no
changes to its configuration except for keyboard layout switching option.
I have added no roles, have not done a thing in the sense of server management.
The problem is that SBS does not boot any more - it stops at the point of
applying the computer parameters. it is got IP set manually to 192.168.0.2/24
with GW and DNS at 192.168.0.1. But the network cable is currently uplugged.

Plug in the network cable
and if your dns was set to the network gateway address of .1, that is =
incorrect. it should have been set to .2, the ip of the LAN

How long has it been sitting there? With no DNS it could be some time.
You may have to power off and restart in safe mode.
The GW should be the ip of your edge device. The DNS should be the ip of
the SBS.
I do not like 0 or 1 in the third position, but that is just me. Home systems
use those. If you have a true firewall, it should use some other set of
numbers in the third position, WG = 111. Some netgear = 123.
For SBS 2008 you might use the forum or BETTER the nntp reader for:
microsoft.connect.windows.server.sbs08
instructions are here:

The problem seems to be independent of network numbers (though I have changed
the used NIC's DNS to 127.0.0.1) - the application event logger shows
notification event" message with ID 6006 at startup.

As we have all suggested, the cable needs to be plugged in.
